Finally, decide what kind of bedding you actually want. Are you looking for just a comforter or an entire bedding set? The most complete bedding sets include a comforter, fitted sheet, top sheet, shams, a bed skirt, pillowcases, and sometimes small, decorative pillows. That's a big difference than a simple set with just pillowcases and sheets, so it's important to decide what you're looking for before you shop. Complete sets are obviously more expensive than others, but considering how much you're getting for that price it can be a wise financial decision. If you're simply sprucing up a bed, a smaller set may work for your needs.
It's usually easiest to choose a color first. Kids will like to have input in this step. Bright colors and crazy patterns are usually favorites in kids' bedrooms. More mature colors should be saved for the rest of the home. You can take color in some very unique directions, but you should make sure it fits in with the rest of the room as well. Kids' rooms are often themed so certain colors and patterns will look better than others. In the case that there's no theme or style to the room, it's easiest to use the walls as a starting point. Find bedding that matches or complements the color of the walls and you can't go wrong.
