One solution to the bedding dilemma is to decide on a theme. Many parents today know the sex of the child before birth and may choose certain colors based on this. Some remember a favorite childhood character, such as Winnie the Pooh, and base the bedding and room colors around it. Other influences to bedding choice can be family heirlooms, memorabilia, rock and roll bands, sports and sports teams, or possibly grade school ABCs or numbers.
It's usually easiest to choose a color first. Kids will like to have input in this step. Bright colors and crazy patterns are usually favorites in kids' bedrooms. More mature colors should be saved for the rest of the home. You can take color in some very unique directions, but you should make sure it fits in with the rest of the room as well. Kids' rooms are often themed so certain colors and patterns will look better than others. In the case that there's no theme or style to the room, it's easiest to use the walls as a starting point. Find bedding that matches or complements the color of the walls and you can't go wrong.
